Book Proposal Development

You’ve got the major ideas of your book down on paper.

Now, it’s time to craft it into a compelling sales pitch.

You know you’re ready to get a book proposal edit if…

You have a drafted proposal, but you aren’t sure if it’s what agents are looking for

You want your proposal to be as persuasive as possible

You aren’t sure how to handle the tricky question of platform

You’re ready to query agents

When you work with me, your finished product will be what agents are looking for.

A proposal edit includes:

  • Two to three rounds of margin notes

These notes home in on the individual sections of your proposal as well as how those sections work together to sell you and your book as a worthwhile investment.

  • Two to three calls, one after each round of edits

During these calls, we’ll dissect my notes and brainstorm the best positioning and pitch for your book. I’ll push you to bring as much emotion to the proposal as you do to the book itself.

Your proposal is your book’s first introduction into the world. Make people want more.

After reading hundreds (maybe even thousands!) of proposals, I know what makes agents and editors want to keep reading. After we work together, your proposal will convince the person behind you at the grocery store to buy your book!

 Love from past clients.

“Working with Liz was incredible! She gave me very clear action items for how to improve it, including significant structural advice on my outline. It took me several weeks to rewrite this, but once I did, it felt so much better! I couldn’t be happier with the end result. My proposal finally feels ready, and more than that, it is polished! Somehow, it feels truer to my voice than the proposal that I had created on my own, better articulating what my book is actually about. It was a lovely experience.”

“Liz tore right into my draft proposal. I thought I was close to done! Well, if you want that sort of feedback probably best to avoid an editor in the first place. Liz did some basic clean up on areas that were pretty good and made me totally reconceptualize the overview and marketing strategy. I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but now the proposal is so much more focused and geared toward agents' desires.”
